This groundbreaking monograph is centered on Yoshitomo Nara's works from his early years to his recent works, and makes full use of a wealth of valuable materials, as well as long-term interviews and testimonies from the people involved. Divided into five chapters, the book begins with Yoshitomo Nara's roots in the Tohoku region of Japan, moves to his childhood when he first encountered music, his time at Aichi Prefectural University of Fine Arts and Music, his training in Germany, his struggles in the 2000s when he gained enthusiastic support, his return to the north triggered by the Great East Japan Earthquake, and his thoughts about the future. The result is a close collaboration between Yoshitomo Nara and an art historian who works borderlessly in Asia, Europe, and the United States.

Yoshitomo Nara
Born in Hirosaki City, Aomori Prefecture in 1959. He received his MFA from Aichi Prefectural University of Fine Arts and Music in 1987, and entered the Art Academy in Dusseldorf, Germany, in 1988.
